Saving Our Nation Starts With Families

The most wonderful thing happened yesterday... and I think it just might help save our nation! 🇺🇸❤️

The doorbell rang late yesterday afternoon.

Ding. Ding. Ding.

I hurried to the door, and there he was—my precious three-year-old grandson, freshly released from his car seat after surviving a five-hour road trip. He had apparently been saving up every ounce of excitement for that very moment. Before I could say hello, he launched himself into my arms with the biggest hug imaginable.

Instant joy.

Just like that, our annual "Fourfa July" celebration had officially begun!

For the next few days there will be swimming, boating, laughter, reading books, cuddles, fireworks... and, of course... food. Lots and lots of food. (Did I mention the food?)

My once-tidy kitchen floor has now disappeared beneath a colorful explosion of toys, while my grandson and his baby sister happily weave in and out of our feet as we cook, laugh, and prepare for the festivities. Honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

But this year feels a little different.

As our nation approaches its 250th birthday, I've found myself thinking about what truly makes a country strong.

It's easy to look to politics, policies, or programs. But I wonder if one of the greatest nation-building projects happens around dining room tables, on back porches, beside swimming pools, and in living rooms where grandparents read one more story before bedtime.

Every hug.

Every shared meal.

Every family tradition.

Every memory we intentionally create.

These moments become the building blocks of emotionally healthy children, spiritually grounded families, and connected communities. And healthy communities are what ultimately strengthen a nation.

We've all witnessed the heartbreaking effects of fractured families on the fabric of our society. That's why gathering together, laughing together, praying together, eating together, and simply enjoying one another isn't just sentimental—it's significant.

Maybe reclaiming our nation starts with reclaiming our families.

So this "Fourfa July," I'm going to splash in the pool, spoil my grandchildren, read a few extra books, sneak an extra cookie or two, stay up for fireworks, and soak up every moment.

Because maybe...

just maybe...

saving our nation starts with answering the door when a joyful little three-year-old rings the bell.

Happy "Fourfa July," everyone! 🇺🇸❤️
